Depp Impact is proud to be paparazzi-free.
In July of 2009, Depp Impact became paparazzi-free. Over 106,000 existing photos were reviewed. Those determined to be the work of paparazzi were deleted. Hundreds of existing external links were checked. Links to web pages hosting photos taken by paparazzi were removed.
The decision to become paparazzi-free came after much consideration. During the promotion of Public Enemies, Johnny spoke of the effect paparazzi have on his life. In a interview for The Telegraph he stated, "I hardly ever leave my house. I don't go anywhere. If the choice is between being constantly gawked at and sitting in a chair in a dark room, I prefer the dark room." In an interview for Buzzine he said, "Where I could walk and be completely anonymous? I'd walk through Disneyland with my kids and let them experience that. They don't get to get daddy... When daddy walks through Disneyland with them, things get weird."
Johnny has long made his feelings about paparazzi clear - he knows it part of his success but doesn't like it. He has often talked of being unable to live a normal life without having their lens pointed at him. He speaks passionately about the invasion of his family's privacy. The greatest price he pays for his success is the loss of partaking in the simple joys of fatherhood, the only thing he wants to be good at in life. (ivillage.com interview, December 2010)
Depp Impact's Core Values state, "We promote respect for Johnny, his family, their privacy and each other." Since Johnny has made it clear how much he values his privacy, we made the choice to no longer support the efforts of paparazzi. Continuing to host their photos was not demonstrating respect for Johnny or his privacy. It was clear we could no longer condone the intrusive acts of paparazzi by turning our heads the other way.
It is important to us to promote respect for Johnny's privacy through our actions. It is not our intent to condemn fansites that continue to host photos taken by paparazzi, or fans who are drawn to their siren song. What we hope to acheieve by being paparazzi-free is to inspire others to think about their own practices and consider an alternative. Johnny has given so generously to his admirers - this is something Depp Impact can give back to him. We can take a stand for his privacy.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.
Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
