Guest Performances: Live

Johnny has performed as a guest guitarist (and occasional drummer) with many performers, including Alice Cooper, Shane MacGowan, Oasis, Iggy Pop, Aerosmith, Bill Carter and Patti Smith.

Shane McGowan - Johnny performed "That Woman's Got Me Drinking" with Shane McGowan and The Popes on Top Of the Pops in September 1994. Top Of the Pops was a weekly British television show that featured that week's top-selling popular music artists.

Iggy Pop - Johnny joined Iggy Pop for the recording of "Hollywood Affair" in late 1999. The single was included in the album Corruption. Johnny is credited with writing the music and co-producing "Hollywood Affair" on the album. A month after the recording, Johnny rejoined Iggy to play "Hollywood Affair" and "Nightclubbing" for a live show in Canal, Paris.

Voices for Justice Rally - On August 28, 2010, Arkansas Take Action held a rally to raise awareness of the legal battle of the West Memphis Three - three Arkansas teenagers convicted in 1993 for the murders of three young boys in what has been referred to as a miscarriage of justice. Years after the conviction, Johnny has taken up their cause. His first public appearance on the boy's behalf was an interview with CBS News' 48 Hours Mystery called "A Cry for Innocence", which aired February 27, 2010. He expressed his belief in the boy's total innocence, and discussed the flaws in the prosecution's case.

Johnny and several other high profile people participated in the Voices for Justice Rally. Johnny read a passage from Damien Echols' journal - Damien was considered to be the ring-leader of the trio. Following the reading, Johnny accompanied Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder on guitar, playing the solo in Jerry Hannan's "Society". Johnny also accompanied Patti Smith, the final act of the night, with Eddie Vedder and Bill Carter in Smith's "My Blakean Years", "Wings" and "Dancing Barefoot". All of the performers who participated in the rally joined Patti, Johnny, Eddie and Bill on stage for the finale, Patti's "People Have the Power".

Alice Cooper - Alice Cooper, touring to promote his latest album, played at London's intimate 100 Club on June 26th, 2011. Introduced by Alice as "Mr. D from Ken-Tuck-EE", Johnny joined the band as a surprise guest guitarist. Johnny played lead on "I'm Eighteen", and a "School's Out" / Pink Floyd's "Another Brick In the Wall" mix-up.

The Rum Diary film promotions - While promoting The Rum Dairy, Johnny aqccompanied fellow musicians on stage at several different venues.

UC Berkley Screening Party - According to The Hollywood Reporter, Johnny's JD Band took the stage at the Shattuck Down Low after-party. Chuck E. Weiss was the evening's main entertainment.

Austin Film Festival - Johnny played with Bill Carter and the Blame, who were then joined by Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top at the Continental Club in Austin, Texas. According to Johnny Depp Rocks!, the set included "Jacksboro Highway", "Willy The Wimp", "Good Lovin'", "Why Get Up", "Eva Bible", "Road Block", "'67 Buick", and "Shake Your Hips".

2012 Golden Gods Awards - Johnny accompanied Marilyn Manson playing guitar on "The Beautiful People" and "Sweet Dreams" at the 4th annual Golden Gods Awards on April 11, 2012 in a surprise appearance.

Aerokids - Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, and The Kid's Joey Malone, Bruce Witkin and Johnny Depp and Bruce's talented daughter, V Witkin - dubbed "Aerokids" by Malone (Source: Atlas Jams) - made music together in a private event on April 14, 2012. Marilyn Manson, Bill Carter, and professional drummer Rob Klonel also joined them. On the May 9, 2012 edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Johnny confirmed that the event was actually his son, Jack's, tenth birthday party. Photos taken at the event can be found on Atlas Jams website.

Dark Shadows Premiere After Party - Alice Cooper and his band was joined onstage by Johnny, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith at the after party for the Dark Shadows World Premiere. The songs included the Rolling Stone's "Brown Sugar", Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" and The Beatles' "Come Together". "Come Together" featured Johnny Depp on guitar, and was introduced by Steven Tyler: "Tim Burton, this one is for you."

Aerosmith - On August 6, 2012, Johnny joined Aeromith on guitar during their Global Warming Tour concert in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Bowl. Johnny was greated with much enthusiasm by band and audience alike as Steven Tyler introduced him with, "I'm gonna need your help out here. Johnny Depp, are you in the house? Johnny Depp!"

The Lone Ranger Wrap Party - An unoffical wrap party for The Lone Ranger took place on August 25, 2012 in Angel Fire, New Mexico. Johnny, Gore Verbinski, Bruce Witkin, Joey Malone and Cary Ayers played together on stage. According to Johnny Depp Rocks, the playlist included a blues instrumental, "Folsom Prison Blues", "Rebel Rebel", and "Money (That's What I Want)".

Patti Smith - Johnny joined Patti Smith as a guest guitarist at a concert at Los Angeles' Wiltern Theater on October 12, 2012. Johhny played guitar during the three-song encore: "Banga", "People Have The Power" and "Rock 'n Roll Nigger". Flea, the bassist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, also played at the concert. Petty Fest West - On November 14, 2012, Johnny participated in Petty Fest West at the El Ray Theater in Los Angeles. Petty Fest West was a celebration of the music of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers held for the benefit of Sweet Relief Music Fund and the victims of Hurricane Sandy. Johhny played guitar on "Mary Jane's Last Dance", "Here Comes My Girl", "It's Good to Be King", "I Need to Know", "Honey Bee" and "American Girl" (Source: Johnny Depp Rocks!) Alice Cooper - Johnny again joined Alice Cooper during his Raise the Dead tour on November 29, 2012 at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles. Johnny appeared to be in great spirits as he helped play tributes to Rock and Roll greats on covers of The Doors' "Break On Through (To The Other Side)", The Beatles' "Revolution", Jimi Hendrix's "Foxy Lady" and The Who's "My Generation". Cooper classics "I'm Eighteen", "Under My Wheels", "Poison" and "Schools Out" were also on his playlist.

Aerosmith - In the final week of the second leg of Aerosmith's Global Warming tour, Johnny again joined them on stage, this time at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Johnny played guitar on Fleetwood Mac's "Stop Messin' Around", and The Beatles' "Come Together". Also joining the band on stage was Guns N' Roses' Izzy Stradlin.

Bill Carter and The Blame - Johnny joined longtime friends and collaborators in music Bill Carter (P), Joey Malone (The Kids), Bruce Witkin (The Kids) and others for a blues jam session at The Mint in Los Angeles on December 7, 2012. According to Johnny Depp Rocks!, the set list included "Jackboro Highway", "That's What I'm Doing Here", "Anything Made of Paper", "Feels Like Rain", and "People Are Strange". The show lasted for two hours, and was filmed for a documentary about songwriters, That's What I'm Doing Here, projected release date April 2013.

Alice Cooper's Christmas Pudding - Johnny Depp took the stage and jammed with Alice Cooper and his band for Alice's twelfth annual Christmas Pudding extravaganza at Comerica Theater in Phoenix, Arizona. Christmas Pudding is an annual event held for the benefit of Solid Rock, a faith-based non-profit organization Alice co-founded to help teens "build confidence and discover their passion through music, dance, self-expression, and creativity." (Source: Solid Rock) Johnny lended his guitar skills to such rock classics as "Break On Through", "Revolution", "Foxy Lady", "My Generation", "Under My Wheels", "Poison", "School's Out/Another Brick In The Wall" and "Run Run Rudolph". Duesenberg Guitar’s NAMM After-party - On January 25, 2014, Johnny joined Stephen Tyler, Alice Cooper, and Marilyn Manson on stage at the Imperial 8 Ball at the Servite Theater in Anaheim, California. Johnny played a limited-release Duesenberg signature guitar detailed with his tattoos. Nathan Fawley of Duesenberg USA says: "In working with Johnny on this project, which took over one full year, we wanted to do something that was about Johnny on a personal level, and if there's anything that tells Johnny's life story, it's his tattoos. Each one symbolizes a significant event in his life." (Source: Duesenberg press release.) Backed by a band consisting of half of Alice Cooper's band and half of The Kids, the band played two songs before Marylin Mansion joined them on stage for several more.

Rodeo Austin - Johnny joined Willie Nelson and his band in concert for his entire set on March 9, 2014. The concert took place in Austin,Texas at the Star of Texas Rodeo, Travis County Exposition Center.

Beijing, China - While in China for the premiere of Transcendence, Johnny performed with David Tao, popular local Taiwanese R&B/hard rock artist, for about 1,000 invited guests on March 31, 2014. The event was organized by Chinese studio DMG and took place at the 798 art zone in Beijing.

Willie Nelson - Johnny performed for a second time with Willie Nelson on June 17, 2014. The concert took place at the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion in Boston, Massachusetts: Johnny was in town for the filming of Black Mass. According to Johnny Depp Rocks!, Johnny played guitar for the entire set.

Aerosmith - One day short of a month after his appearance with Willie Nelson, Johnny again made a guest appearance - this time on the concert stage in Boston's Comcast Center. Before the final encore, Steven Tyler (Aerosmith) announced "Yo! Bringing out on stage my good friend, Mr. Johnny Depp!". Johnny joined Aerosmith for Train Kept a-Rollin'.
